[ The things Dean wasn't expecting when he picked up his phone to answer the call. Of course, he's a dumb ass and didn't even realize it was video. That's the problem when you're from before facetime was even a thing. In fact, the iphone was practically still in the throes of it's first debut when he got dragged here. ]
You almost make it sound like I've been here a few times. [ you have Dean, you just don't now it yet since Jo's been more then a little hush, hush over the fact. ] I do hope the first impression was a good one.
[To be fair, Nick's first smartphone was Hope's phone, here, and she had a hell of a time adjusting to it.]
Well ... just the once, that I know of, anyway. [Shrug. People come and go. It's what they do here. This is Nick's third trip.] First impression ... [her face scrunches up, recalling the memory, because it was QUITE A WHILE AGO OK] ... drinks at Delight's bar, bitching about high school, and me saying you dress like my dad. [Which is true. He does. She grins, but it quickly fades.] Second impression, though ... [well, technically that was a dream, so we'll skip over that for now. Third impression?] I ran into you, and you'd been out killing monsters in the caves. And you said that's what you do, back wherever it is you're from.
[And Nick hadn't taken that well at all, still being in the monster closet at the time. She chews her bottom lip for a second before continuing on. Better to get this out of the way now than find herself on the business end of a weapon that might actually do some damage later on.]
See, here's the thing - I look like a normal human right now, but I don't always. And that's 'cause I'm not. I'm a Nightbane.
No offense, dude, but you totally dress like my dad. It's not like, a bad thing, though.
[And hey, at least he's not hanging up on her, so that's a good sign.]
We're what you'd call "developmentally atypical humans," [she says, with a roll of her eyes and finger quotes,] and I know basically nothing about comic books 'cause I ain't a nerd, so I couldn't tell you if that's what we're like. Basically, it just means I can change shape sometimes and do weird shit that most people can't. We all look different, I guess - me, I look like this weird old doll, like the kind you'd see in antique stores. But I don't hurt people.
[And that's important to stress, because that's one of the things that's helped Nick accept her monstrous lineage - knowing that she has a choice, and that choice is to help people instead of causing harm.]
Well, that's a shame. I bet you would make one hot nerd if you were into comics. Then again, you're pretty much superhero fodder by the sound of it. Although you might want to consider changing into something other than some freaky old doll.
[ yeah... he's still in disbelief that what people tell him is actually the truth. At least she ain't claiming she's here to steal his skin. ]
always okay!

[ he'd expect no less of himself to be honest. ]

I'm pretty sure I don't dress like anybody's dad.
[ mostly because Dean's not dad material. but, then again, he did like to ape papa Winchester so. The argument is fair. ]
And what exactly is a Nightbane? That sounds like something out of a Batman comic book.
[ well, sort of. It's still worth asking the question while he tried to buy a few minutes time to think. ]
