[So after a mention from Jo, Nick finds a quiet corner of Monstercave City to dial up Dean.]
Hey ... um, you don't know me, but I kinda know you. Knew you, anyway - I mean, the guy who was here before. [She waves, half-rolling her eyes at herself, feeling pretty damn stupid.] Anyway, I'm Nick.
[ The things Dean wasn't expecting when he picked up his phone to answer the call. Of course, he's a dumb ass and didn't even realize it was video. That's the problem when you're from before facetime was even a thing. In fact, the iphone was practically still in the throes of it's first debut when he got dragged here. ]
You almost make it sound like I've been here a few times. [ you have Dean, you just don't now it yet since Jo's been more then a little hush, hush over the fact. ] I do hope the first impression was a good one.
[To be fair, Nick's first smartphone was Hope's phone, here, and she had a hell of a time adjusting to it.]
Well ... just the once, that I know of, anyway. [Shrug. People come and go. It's what they do here. This is Nick's third trip.] First impression ... [her face scrunches up, recalling the memory, because it was QUITE A WHILE AGO OK] ... drinks at Delight's bar, bitching about high school, and me saying you dress like my dad. [Which is true. He does. She grins, but it quickly fades.] Second impression, though ... [well, technically that was a dream, so we'll skip over that for now. Third impression?] I ran into you, and you'd been out killing monsters in the caves. And you said that's what you do, back wherever it is you're from.
[And Nick hadn't taken that well at all, still being in the monster closet at the time. She chews her bottom lip for a second before continuing on. Better to get this out of the way now than find herself on the business end of a weapon that might actually do some damage later on.]
See, here's the thing - I look like a normal human right now, but I don't always. And that's 'cause I'm not. I'm a Nightbane.
No offense, dude, but you totally dress like my dad. It's not like, a bad thing, though.
[And hey, at least he's not hanging up on her, so that's a good sign.]
We're what you'd call "developmentally atypical humans," [she says, with a roll of her eyes and finger quotes,] and I know basically nothing about comic books 'cause I ain't a nerd, so I couldn't tell you if that's what we're like. Basically, it just means I can change shape sometimes and do weird shit that most people can't. We all look different, I guess - me, I look like this weird old doll, like the kind you'd see in antique stores. But I don't hurt people.
[And that's important to stress, because that's one of the things that's helped Nick accept her monstrous lineage - knowing that she has a choice, and that choice is to help people instead of causing harm.]
Well, that's a shame. I bet you would make one hot nerd if you were into comics. Then again, you're pretty much superhero fodder by the sound of it. Although you might want to consider changing into something other than some freaky old doll.
[ yeah... he's still in disbelief that what people tell him is actually the truth. At least she ain't claiming she's here to steal his skin. ]
Then I'll be the guy sitting at the bar keeping an eye on the door when you walk in at 7. Just look for the guy with the biggest grin in the joint and that will probably be me.
( She'd leave the rebuttal to that to the more fashion conscious of her friends, but most of them aren't here.
Regardless, the time approaches and Kate makes it - as promised - at 7. She's not quite as eyecatching without the pink hair, but the obnoxiously bright yellow hoodie may make up for the lack of any hair dye in this city. )
Hey stranger.
( She doesn't need to guess. Dean looks younger than he did last time, Jo wasn't kidding, but he's still recognisable. It's not like he came back aged 14 or anything. )
All right. You gonna have the door open or should I knock first?
[ he probably should knock all things considered. Especially if she was begging him to hurry. Which is he considering he's already tossing on a coat and jeans in full sight of the phone even as he keeps an eye on it. ]
[ oh, please. it ain't like she's never seen him in boxers before. That whole stint in the apartment living together? yeah, she probably saw it then. ]
Right. Super secret knock coming up in ten then.
[ and he cuts the line and starts jogging (god, he could kill for a car) towards Jo's apartment. Once there, he knocks. ]
[Look, just because she let him use her room while he was sleeping on the couch doesn't mean she was watching. And if she had, she's still going to be polite.
She'd been watching out an upstairs window and when he knocks she heads down the stairs, gun in the hand hidden behind the door when she opens it. Just in case.]
[ he raised an eyebrow ] You really think I'd let myself get followed? [ of course, the other question is whether or not people actually don't know where everyone else lives by this point. It's a pretty small community ]
What's wrong?
[ because he's really starting to get concerned. ]
[ he goes stock still for a full second before taking the steps a little faster. ]
Ellie you said? Any idea who did it?
[ he had met her, briefly, after the paintball incident. The girl had been tickled pink to get a real gun and the ammo to use it. It actually almost been cute if not for the context. ]
[ he was making her nervous? How about the corpse on the bed? But he sits, hands on his knees and leaning forward, gaze intent on Jo. ]
So why was she looking for help then?
[ please don't tell him it was because she couldn't get the lid off of a pickle jar. That would be the worst reason to die he's heard in a long time. ]
video. hope this is ok!
Hey ... um, you don't know me, but I kinda know you. Knew you, anyway - I mean, the guy who was here before. [She waves, half-rolling her eyes at herself, feeling pretty damn stupid.] Anyway, I'm Nick.

[ he'd expect no less of himself to be honest. ]

I'm pretty sure I don't dress like anybody's dad.
[ mostly because Dean's not dad material. but, then again, he did like to ape papa Winchester so. The argument is fair. ]
And what exactly is a Nightbane? That sounds like something out of a Batman comic book.
[ well, sort of. It's still worth asking the question while he tried to buy a few minutes time to think. ]

text.
( As if she'd forget the opportunity to get drunk. And to find out just how much younger this version of Dean is. )
no subject
Always. Are we dressing up, dressing down, or dressing barely at all?
[ sorry, not sorry, he just couldn't resist after an invitation like that ]
no subject
Dressing normal. Guessing you know how to get to The Speakeasy?
no subject
I guess I could do normal. And sure, I've had a few drinks there before. What time are we meeting?
no subject
Make it 7?

She may be halfway to drunk, but the only thing Dean might notice is dried tears on her face.]
...Can you come over?
no subject
Did something happen? If anyone just tried to kill you, I'll kill 'em.
[ or at least beat 'em senseless and it ain't like they're out of danger with the Null just yet. At least, not that Dean knows. ]
no subject
Not me. Just get here.
no subject
All right. You gonna have the door open or should I knock first?
[ he probably should knock all things considered. Especially if she was begging him to hurry. Which is he considering he's already tossing on a coat and jeans in full sight of the phone even as he keeps an eye on it. ]

Knock twice, pause, three times.
[Sure, she'll be watching him approach anyway, but it can't hurt to be careful.]
no subject
Right. Super secret knock coming up in ten then.

Hey, Jo. It's me. Dean.

Someone killed Ellie. One of the kids on the list.
no subject

[ he had met her, briefly, after the paintball incident. The girl had been tickled pink to get a real gun and the ammo to use it. It actually almost been cute if not for the context. ]

I dunno. I found her, she was... Just trying to get somewhere for help.
no subject
What kind of help? If she knew she was being chased then she should've called someone.
[ Anyone. There were like a million pro-god supporters all over the network. someone could've stepped in and helped. ]
no subject
Sit down, you're making me nervous.
no subject
So why was she looking for help then?

Who goes after a kid? If I ever find out who it was I'm going to hurt them.
